This somber, intellectually-driven drama prioritizes historical accountability over conventional hero narratives. It avoids a sanitized version of history, opting instead for a nuanced examination of power, religion, and law. While the film lacks contemporary diversity in terms of gender and LGBTQ+ representation, it achieves depth through its critical look at institutional reliability. It focuses on the importance of justice for underrepresented ethnic groups. Ultimately, the film succeeds by exploring how systemic structures can both enable and obstruct justice for victims of historical persecution.
