Moussa has always been gentle, altruistic and present for his family. This is the opposite of his brother Ryad, a TV presenter of great notoriety who is reproached for his selfishness by his entourage. Only Moussa defends him, who has great admiration for his brother. One day Moussa falls and hits his head violently. He suffers a head injury. Unrecognizable, he now speaks without a filter and tells his relatives the truth. He ends up falling out with everyone except Ryad.

Category Breakdown
LGBTQ+ Representation
The narrative focuses primarily on fraternal dynamics and family cohesion. There is no explicit evidence of LGBTQ+ character arcs or non-heteronormative identities within the plot.
Gender Representation
The story centers on male-driven conflict between brothers. However, the protagonist's psychological breakdown offers a vulnerable portrayal of masculinity that disrupts traditional protector archetypes.
Racial & Ethnic Diversity
The film provides high agency to characters of color by centering a North African-French family. This moves non-white identities from the periphery into complex, high-stakes emotional storytelling.
Religious & Cultural Diversity
The film critiques performative social hierarchies and the sanctity of the traditional family unit. It uses psychological realism to challenge idealized moral structures and social facades.
Disability Representation
Moussa’s traumatic brain injury offers a nuanced look at cognitive disability. The film explores how his loss of impulse control forces a reconfiguration of his entire social environment.

AI Analysis
Our Ties is a sophisticated character study that uses a medical catalyst to dismantle social pretenses. By centering on North African-French identities, the film avoids Eurocentric domestic tropes and provides significant agency to its characters of color. The narrative excels in its exploration of neurodivergent behavior and the fragility of social hierarchies. Moussa's loss of a social filter serves as a powerful tool for truth-telling, even as it alienates him from his kin. While the film offers deep psychological realism, it lacks visible LGBTQ+ representation and remains heavily centered on male-driven conflict. This limits the breadth of its social commentary despite its strong cultural and racial focus.
