Bertrand's Farm serves as a longitudinal sociological study of a specific micro-community in France. It excels at documenting temporal shifts and the evolution of social structures over twenty-five years. The film provides meaningful insight into gendered shifts in agricultural management. By centering Hélène, it disrupts traditional patriarchal hierarchies inherent in historical farming narratives. However, the work operates within a very narrow demographic framework. It lacks broader multicultural or LGBTQ+ representation, focusing instead on a homogeneous rural setting.
