Las Leandras successfully provides a culturally specific, non-Western perspective by centering its story within the Mexican Revolution. The film effectively uses its setting to challenge rigid class structures and traditional authority through a female-led ensemble. However, the film lacks depth in specific identity politics, offering no meaningful representation for LGBTQ+ individuals or characters with disabilities. Ultimately, the film explores social mobility and gendered ability to act during systemic upheaval, even if it avoids explicit modern identity discourse.
