Apiyemiyekî? serves as a vital piece of restorative filmmaking that dismantles the myth of state-led modernization. By centering the Waimiri-Atroari people, the film exposes the human cost of industrial expansion and infrastructural development. The documentary succeeds in reclaiming historical ability to act through the use of indigenous-created illustrations. This visual language disrupts the colonial gaze and links historical trauma to contemporary existence. While the film excels in racial and cultural representation, it lacks specific data regarding LGBTQ+ or disability narratives. Its primary impact lies in its multi-layered historical revisionism.
