Finding Me is a character-driven exploration of identity and the tension between personal truth and societal pressures. The film excels by delving beyond simple visibility, focusing instead on the psychological burden of straight-centered family expectations and the pursuit of self-actualization. The film's strength lies in its nuanced portrayal of queer ability to act through characters like Lonnie. By contrasting the protagonist's insecurity with activist confidence, the story avoids purely tragic clichés. While the film shines in its cultural and LGBTQ+ depth, it remains narrowly focused on the male experience. This limits its broader critique of gender hierarchies.
