During the Civil War in 17th-Century England, a small group of deserters flee from a raging battle through an overgrown field. They are captured by an alchemist, who forces the group to aid him in his search to find a hidden treasure that he believes is buried in the field. Crossing a vast mushroom circle, which provides their first meal, the group quickly descend into a chaos of arguments, fighting and paranoia, and, as it becomes clear that the treasure might be something other than gold, they slowly become victim to the terrifying energies trapped inside the field.

Category Breakdown
LGBTQ+ Representation
The film lacks any discernible LGBTQ+ characters or queer identities. It operates within a strictly heteronormative, period-specific vacuum that offers no critique of traditional gender expressions.
Gender Representation
The cast is comprised almost entirely of men, omitting female perspectives. This focus prevents the narrative from engaging with gendered power dynamics or subverting traditional hierarchies through female agency.
Racial & Ethnic Diversity
The film maintains a homogeneous cast of white English men. While historically grounded in the 17th century, the narrative does not utilize color-blind casting or metaphorical diversity.
Religious & Cultural Diversity
The film excels at deconstructing Western institutions and authority. It portrays the collapse of social structures and replaces traditional morality with a chaotic, relativistic survivalism.
Disability Representation
Neurodivergence is explored through drug-induced psychosis and madness. However, these states serve as plot devices for violence rather than providing a nuanced portrayal of neurodivergent identity.

AI Analysis
A Field in England is a study in social and psychological fragmentation. While it fails significantly in demographic breadth, it succeeds in its subversive approach to cultural norms and authority. The film's primary strength lies in its postmodernist deconstruction of the 'civilized' subject. It replaces structured societal values with a fragmented, anti-authoritarian reality that challenges traditional morality. However, the lack of gender, racial, and LGBTQ+ diversity creates a narrow lens. The narrative remains trapped in a homogeneous, male-centric vacuum that limits its social scope.
