Once We Were Us is a sophisticated character study that prioritizes emotional depth over typical romantic clichés. It succeeds by highlighting the tension between personal desires and socioeconomic constraints. The film's strength lies in its critique of the traditional success narrative, offering a nuanced look at love within a weary urban landscape. However, it lacks explicit representation of LGBTQ+ identities or disability.
