My Name Is Ki is a somber historical meditation on the erosion of innocence in 1940s occupied Poland. It prioritizes period accuracy and the preservation of historical context over challenging social hierarchies. The film uses a naturalist approach to examine the psychological impact of systemic occupation on a rural, working-class community. It focuses on immediate biological imperatives and the survival of the nuclear family unit. Since the narrative centers on a singular ethnic experience and traditional social structures, it does not include diverse identity-based narratives or non-assuming gender matches what was assigned at birth perspectives.
