Hanna D: The Girl from Vondel Park operates within the tradition of European social realism, focusing on the harsh realities of neglect and exploitation. The film stands out for its critique of social stability and examination of the failures of traditional support systems. However, the film lacks broad diversity. The narrative focuses on a narrow set of interpersonal dynamics that do not extend to LGBTQ+, racial, or ethnic diversity. This results in a relatively homogeneous social landscape. Overall, while the film provides a powerful critique of societal structures, it remains limited in its representation of underrepresented communities beyond the central protagonist's experience.
