Diversity & Representation

Overall Score

4.8/10

Category Breakdown

LGBTQ+ Representation

Minimal

The film lacks explicit LGBTQ+ characters or non-heteronormative identity arcs. Romantic tension is confined to the established heterosexual dynamic between the main protagonists.

Gender Representation

Good

Claire Dearing evolves from a corporate figure into a proactive leader, subverting traditional damsel tropes. Maisie Lockwood also introduces complex agency regarding her biological origins.

Racial & Ethnic Diversity

Fair

A diverse ensemble cast moves the franchise away from historical homogeneity. Characters like Franklin Webb provide a contemporary, multi-ethnic presence within the supporting roles.

Religious & Cultural Diversity

Good

The narrative critiques late-stage capitalism and the unethical commodification of life. It explores moral relativism by questioning the ethics of de-extinction and corporate greed.

Disability Representation

Limited

There is minimal focus on visible or invisible disabilities. Maisie Lockwood’s status as a clone serves as a sci-fi plot device rather than a nuanced disability exploration.

Strengths

  • Claire Dearing's character arc subverts female passivity by establishing her as a proactive, field-oriented leader.
  • The film provides a strong critique of corporate greed and the unethical commodification of biological life.
  • The ensemble cast reflects a more contemporary, multi-ethnic demographic compared to earlier franchise entries.

Areas for Improvement

  • The narrative lacks any significant engagement with LGBTQ+ identities or queer theory.
  • There is a notable absence of meaningful representation for characters with physical or neurodivergent disabilities.
  • Central protagonists still largely adhere to traditional casting profiles.

AI Analysis

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom acts as a transitional blockbuster that moves away from monolithic storytelling. It succeeds by integrating critiques of systemic corporate power and granting female characters expanded agency. However, the film remains limited in its engagement with specific identity-driven narratives. It lacks meaningful representation for LGBTQ+ individuals and characters with disabilities, focusing instead on traditional romantic and sci-fi tropes. Ultimately, the film's progressive value lies in its deconstruction of capitalist exploitation and its shift toward a more globalized, multi-ethnic ensemble cast.
