Scared Stiff follows conventional genre clichés typical of late 1980s Hong Kong cinema. Its regional origin provides a non-Western perspective, but the character dynamics rely heavily on traditional archetypes. The film emphasizes gendered clichés related to physical attractiveness and social success among its male leads. This focus on male-driven plots limits the depth of its social representation. While the sci-fi premise explores unique medical states, the narrative seems more focused on plot momentum than in challenging systemic hierarchies or providing diverse character's ability to drive the story.
