D.C. Cab stands out for placing a Black protagonist, Richard Pryor, at the center of the story, which was uncommon for films of the early 1980s. However, the film adheres to the social norms of its time, relying on traditional gender hierarchies and lacking meaningful representation for LGBTQ+ individuals or people with disabilities. The film presents a diverse urban landscape while still being limited by its adherence to conventional social structures.
