Mother Teresa of Calcutta, one of the few canonized saints of our day, is discovered through the eyes of Kavita, a young Englishwoman abandoned by her boyfriend after she’s found to be pregnant. Kavita journeys to Calcutta to escape her pain and soon discovers that even holy people like Mother Teresa have to face life’s challenges and, in fact, struggle through years of spiritual crisis known as the “dark night of the soul”. Inspired by Teresa’s example of perseverance and compassionate love, Kavita rediscovers hope and purpose.

Category Breakdown
LGBTQ+ Representation
The film lacks LGBTQ+ characters or narratives that critique heteronormativity. The central plot revolves around pregnancy and abandonment within a traditional romantic framework.
Gender Representation
The story highlights female agency through the journeys of Kavita and Mother Teresa. While Kavita moves from victimhood to purpose, the themes still lean into traditional gendered expectations of vulnerability.
Racial & Ethnic Diversity
The narrative features a cross-cultural encounter between an Englishwoman and a South Asian icon. This provides moderate intercultural engagement, though the broader racial composition of the cast remains unspecified.
Religious & Cultural Diversity
The film reinforces traditional religious frameworks by centering on a canonized saint. It promotes spiritual perseverance and moral stability rather than offering secular or anti-institutional critiques.
Disability Representation
There is no explicit mention of physical or neurodivergent disabilities. The narrative does touch upon spiritual and psychological distress through the concept of the 'dark night of the soul.'

AI Analysis
Mother Teresa & Me is a character-driven historical drama that focuses on the intersection of personal crisis and spiritual resilience. It utilizes a biographical structure to humanize a religious icon, centering on the parallel emotional journeys of two women. The film succeeds in providing meaningful female-centric agency, moving the protagonist from a state of abandonment toward self-discovery. However, the narrative remains firmly rooted in traditional moral and religious frameworks. While the intercultural setting offers some diversity, the film's reliance on conventional spiritual redemption limits its progressive impact. It functions more as a humanistic study of perseverance than a subversive social commentary.
