Racial & Ethnic Diversity

Good

As a Brazilian production, the film moves away from Anglo-Saxon-centric storytelling. The diverse Brazilian cast and the fantastical setting of Telurian provide a foundation for exploring non-Western identities.

Strengths

  • Utilizes a diverse cast and a speculative setting to foster ethnic variety.

AI Analysis

The Red Scroll stands out as a significant piece of Brazilian animation that challenges standard fantasy archetypes. By placing a young female lead at the heart of a high-stakes adventure, the film disrupts the genre's tendency toward male-dominated leadership. The production benefits from a non-Western creative framework, utilizing a diverse Brazilian cast and a speculative setting that avoids traditional Anglo-centric tropes. This provides a robust landscape for cultural and ethnic variety. However, the film remains neutral regarding LGBTQ+ identities and provides no clear evidence of disability representation. While it succeeds in subverting gender and cultural norms, it lacks specific visibility in other identity-driven subplots.
