The Last of the Vikings is a traditional historical adventure that upholds the cinematic standards of its time. The narrative centers on established hierarchies, emphasizing masculine leadership and physical combat as key elements of the plot. While the film delves into religious tensions between Viking paganism and Frankish Christianity, it does so through a narrow lens of conquest and honor. It fails to challenge period-specific clichés related to gender and societal structure. Overall, the film offers a localized perspective on history, focusing on European ethnic distinctions and patriarchal power dynamics without broader multi-layered or inclusive viewpoints.
Category Breakdown

Women play crucial roles in advancing the plot, especially the heroine’s sister whose arranged marriage propels the main character. However, their influence is limited within a patriarchal system that emphasizes masculine combat.
The cast is uniformly European, highlighting differences between Vikings and Franks through costumes rather than offering diverse or multi-layered representation.
