New Showbiz Analysis

The film excels at using non-human archetypes to challenge traditional social hierarchies. By centering a pluralistic ensemble of creatures, it creates a community where identity is defined by personality rather than biological markers. However, the narrative remains tied to 1981 social norms, particularly regarding LGBTQ+ representation and heterosexual romance. The cultural depth is also limited by its focus on escapist musical spectacle. Ultimately, the film's strength lies in its ability to use a diverse cast to challenge standard power dynamics, even if it lacks explicit modern identity politics.
