The film focuses on a child's journey to challenge social expectations, emphasizing the deconstruction of gendered norms. It highlights non-traditional self-expression as a central driver of the plot and a tool for empowerment. However, the narrative lacks breadth in other areas. The focus remains heavily on internal identity dynamics and gender performance, leaving little room for racial or ethnic diversity within its small-town setting. Ultimately, the film is a progressive exploration of individualism. It prioritizes the dismantling of rigid social hierarchies to allow for personal, non-conformist development.
