The Zebra Killer is a product of 1970s exploitation cinema that prioritizes genre clichés over social complexity. The film's main hook relies on racialized imagery and caricatures to create suspense, which serves to 'other' characters rather than offer meaningful representation. Structurally, the film reinforces traditional hierarchies. It uses a patriarchal investigative model and a standard law-and-order framework that avoids challenging existing social or institutional power dynamics. Overall, the film lacks depth in reflecting multiple aspects of identity. It functions as a straightforward crime procedural that relies on outdated stereotypes and conventional gender roles to maintain its cat-and-mouse tension.
