Camp succeeds as a focused exploration of niche community dynamics, using a performing arts setting to explore identity formation. It effectively disrupts conventional coming-of-age stories by emphasizing communal belonging and the performative nature of identity. The film's greatest strength lies in its authentic portrayal of LGBTQ+ life, treating queer experiences as central rather than peripheral. This creates a sense of vibrancy and ability to act that avoids common cinematic pitfalls. However, the film's focus is narrow. While it excels in exploring queer and artistic subcultures, it lacks significant depth in racial diversity and does not address disability or neurodivergence.
