Haunted at Midnight is a product of its historical era, functioning as a standard genre piece that upholds early 1930s social norms. The film relies on broad archetypes and physical slapstick rather than complex identity issues. The narrative structure centers on traditional themes of inheritance and mystery, lacking depth in representing diverse identities. It prioritizes situational farce over meaningful representation of underrepresented groups. Ultimately, the film adheres to the homogeneous casting and storytelling conventions typical of the Hal Roach studio during this period.
