Sea Wolf (1991) is a traditional period drama that prioritizes classical themes of man versus nature. The narrative focuses on the tension between intellect and instinct through the clash of Humphrey Van-Weyden and Captain Wolf Larsen. The film adheres to established adventure and romance genre conventions. It emphasizes individualist struggle and rugged individualism rather than broader social issues or identity-based discussions.
