Maite Alberdi’s documentary succeeds by disrupting traditional cinematic hierarchies that often make elderly women invisible. By centering a group of female friends, the film elevates their intellectual exchange and social autonomy to the forefront of the narrative. The film excels in its challenge of patriarchal structures, presenting women as independent thinkers rather than mere wives or mothers. This focus on female social architecture provides a refreshing and dignified look at aging. While the film is culturally specific and avoids straight-centered assumptions, it lacks explicit LGBTQ+ representation or a focus on multi-layered racial blending. However, its strength lies in its humanistic portrayal of communal bonds.
Category Breakdown
The film maintains a neutral stance regarding queer identities. It does not center LGBTQ+ romantic relationships or non-binary gender identities within the group's social dynamics.
This documentary highlights the intelligence and independence of women. It focuses on their social leadership without defining them primarily through their relationships to men.
As a Chilean production, the film offers a culturally authentic Latin American perspective. While the cast is ethnically uniform, it provides a necessary counter-narrative to Hollywood-centric views of aging.
The narrative prioritizes secular social connections and chosen communities over religious doctrine. It explores complex human experiences like infidelity and mortality without imposing a rigid moral framework.
Physical vulnerabilities associated with aging are treated as natural parts of the human experience. The film avoids 'inspiration porn' but lacks a specific focus on neurodivergence or disability advocacy.

Official Synopsis
More than sixty years after leaving high school, former classmates Alicia, Gema, Angelica, Ximena and Maria Teresa are still devoted to their regular catch-ups in which they exchange gossip and reminiscences over elaborately presented afternoon teas. Impeccably turned out, the ladies’ free-wheeling tea-time chats run the gamut from mortality and marital infidelity to soccer and twerking.
