Daytime Drinking is a localized character study that prioritizes personal interpersonal dynamics over systemic critiques. The film operates within the margins of South Korean indie cinema, focusing on individual emotional arcs rather than characters who reflect more than one aspect of diversity. The narrative architecture follows a traditional path, centering on a male protagonist's reaction to a breakup. This focus results in a standard, non-subversive approach to storytelling within its specific cultural context. While the film accurately reflects the demographic reality of its South Korean setting, it lacks engagement with broader social diversity or the disruption of conventional social structures.
