The film serves as an intellectual battleground between scientific rationalism and ecclesiastical authority. While it offers a compelling look at the tension between faith and reason, it does so through a traditional lens. The film's strength lies in its cultural critique of religious institutions. By portraying the Church as a force that suppresses inquiry, it provides a nuanced view of institutional power. However, the film remains tethered to conventional hierarchies. It lacks meaningful engagement with gender ability to act, racial diversity, or LGBTQ+ identities, resulting in a narrow demographic scope.
