New Showbiz Analysis

Johnny Handsome is a character study that breaks down the traditional noir hero. By focusing on a protagonist with a physical difference, the film explores how systemic exclusion shapes personal ethics. However, its scope is limited. It lacks diverse racial backgrounds and offers little representation for LGBTQ+ identities, staying close to traditional social structures. Ultimately, the film's strength lies in its nuanced portrayal of disability, avoiding the use of physical differences as mere plot devices and instead using them to drive a complex narrative about autonomy and value.
