Thomas Haemmerli’s documentary is a deeply personal, observational study of grief and the reclaiming of family history. It succeeds by deconstructing traditional domestic ideals, replacing sanitized versions of motherhood and order with a raw, unvarnished reality. However, the film lacks significant markers of racial or LGBTQ+ diversity. Its scope is intensely localized and focused on a specific, private family dynamic, which limits its broader perspective. Ultimately, the work finds strength in its exploration of mental health and subjective memory. It moves away from caricature to provide a complex look at the physical and emotional labor of managing a hoarded environment.
