Dobermann is a hyper-stylized crime thriller that prioritizes kinetic energy and postmodern nihilism over traditional moral binaries. It disrupts social hierarchies by presenting a world where institutional authority is corrupt or ineffective. The film's strength lies in its subversion of gender roles and its cosmopolitan casting. By portraying women as autonomous and violent combatants and using a multi-ethnic ensemble, it avoids the homogeneity common in many genre films. However, the film lacks depth regarding specific identity politics. It offers little in the way of LGBTQ+ representation or disability visibility, focusing instead on the chaotic nature of its criminal underworld.
