Number One builds its emotional core around a young man’s fear of losing his mother, using a fantasy countdown tied to her cooking. This premise foregrounds traditional family values and everyday warmth, which shapes its cultural texture more than its demographic range. The all-Korean cast fits the setting and source material, but the film does not extend beyond that single cultural frame. Female characters are present yet largely confined to domestic or supportive roles, and no LGBTQ+ or disabled characters appear. Because the available material is thin—essentially a synopsis and brief reception notes—the assessment rests on limited on-screen evidence. The film’s strengths lie in its intimate family focus, while its diversity footprint remains narrow.
Category Breakdown
No LGBTQ+ characters appear or are identified. The only romance shown is between Ha-min and his girlfriend Ryeo-eun, leaving queer identities entirely absent from the narrative.
The story orbits a male protagonist’s emotional arc. A mother figure drives the initial conflict through her cooking, but her role is defined by domestic care rather than independent agency.
The cast is entirely Korean, matching the film’s South Korean setting and source material. Characters of color are not depicted, as the narrative remains within a single cultural context.
The film honors traditional family bonds and domestic rituals, framing a mother’s cooking as central to emotional life. It treats family connection as a positive, grounding force rather than a burden.
No characters with physical or mental disabilities are mentioned. The narrative focuses on supernatural anxiety rather than disability experiences, leaving that dimension unexplored.

Official Synopsis
Eighteen-year-old Ha-min suddenly begins to see the number "365" every time he eats his mother's homemade meal—and the number drops with each bite. Believing it to be a countdown to his mother's death, he distances himself from her and her cooking. Years later, still haunted by the number, Ha-min lives cautiously, preparing for the worst. Just as he begins to find peace with his girlfriend Ryeo-eun, an unexpected truth turns his world upside down.
