How Deep Is Your Love is a character-driven study that avoids the sanitized morality typical of 1990s commercial cinema. It succeeds by navigating the complexities of queer identity and deconstructing idealized romantic connections. The film focuses on characters on the fringes of social stability, offering a gritty, non-traditional look at interpersonal dynamics. However, it remains culturally localized and relies on characters defined by vulnerability and substance use.
