New Showbiz Analysis

Mortal Fear centers its narrative around a highly active female protagonist, Dr. Jennifer Kessler, who drives the plot through her scientific expertise and moral courage. This provides a strong foundation for gender representation by avoiding the damsel in distress cliché. However, the film lacks visible demographic diversity. There is no evidence of LGBTQ+ representation or intentional racial diversity, which keeps the overall score from rising significantly. The narrative remains firmly within the conventions of a mid-90s Western thriller. The film's strength lies in its systemic critique. By portraying the medical and insurance industries as corrupt and predatory, it challenges established institutional power dynamics.
