Diversity & Representation

Overall Score

2.6/10

Limited

Category Breakdown

LGBTQ+ Representation

Minimal

The film functions as a traditional fantasy-comedy without evidence of non-cisnormative identities. It relies on conventional character archetypes rather than narratives that critique heteronormativity.

Gender Representation

Limited

The narrative follows a male-centric framework centered on Walter and Ascanio. Female characters appear likely to serve as secondary or reactive figures within traditional comedic tropes.

Racial & Ethnic Diversity

Limited

Reflecting the demographic homogeneity of late-90s Italian commercial cinema, the film lacks diverse ethnic ensembles. The focus remains on historical or fantastical settings rather than challenging Western-centric norms.

Religious & Cultural Diversity

Limited

The production prioritizes escapism and situational humor over systemic critique. It reinforces conventional social stability rather than exploring anti-capitalist or secularist themes.

Disability Representation

Minimal

There is no evidence of human neurodivergence or physical disabilities being represented. While the time-travel machine is defective, this does not translate to human disability representation.

Strengths

  • Provides light-hearted, escapist entertainment through a fantasy-comedy lens.

Areas for Improvement

  • Lacks diverse character archetypes or non-cisnormative representation.
  • Follows a male-centric protagonist framework with limited female agency.
  • Fails to challenge traditional social hierarchies or Western-centric norms.

The film adheres to the traditional structures of its era, focusing on a male-led adventure through time and space.
