AI Analysis

Belly is a visually arresting exploration of urban stratification and the psychological toll of socioeconomic survival. It succeeds by centering Black identity and deconstructing the American Dream through a stylized, surrealist lens. While the film offers a nuanced critique of systemic inequality and capitalist structures, it remains tethered to traditional gender hierarchies. The narrative prioritizes hyper-masculine survival dynamics, often relegating female characters to secondary roles. Ultimately, the film's strength lies in its refusal to provide a simplistic, moralistic view of urban life. It replaces standard crime tropes with a complex interrogation of class and identity.
