Category Breakdown

LGBTQ+ Representation

Limited

The film lacks discernible evidence of non-cisnormative gender identities or same-sex intimacy. The narrative focus remains centered on survival mechanics, leaving little room for queer identity exploration.

Gender Representation

Fair

Character dynamics largely mirror traditional teen horror archetypes like the jock and the popular girl. While female characters are central, the film does not significantly subvert conventional gender hierarchies.

Racial & Ethnic Diversity

Fair

The production utilizes a multi-ethnic cast, including Asian and Caucasian actors. However, these identities do not serve as central drivers of character agency or social commentary.

Religious & Cultural Diversity

Limited

The film operates within a standard Western social framework. It lacks significant anti-capitalist, anti-Western, or secularist narratives, adhering instead to standard adolescent rebellion tropes.

Disability Representation

Limited

The story focuses on the protagonist's perceived transition into a non-human state. There is no evidence of characters with disabilities being afforded agency beyond the horror trope of the undead.

Strengths

  • The film utilizes a multi-ethnic cast, including actors of Asian and Caucasian descent.
  • Female characters are central to the plot and the driving horror premise.

Areas for Improvement

  • The narrative relies heavily on traditional teen horror archetypes and gender hierarchies.
  • There is a lack of meaningful representation for LGBTQ+ identities or queer intimacy.
  • The film misses opportunities to explore neurodivergence or disability through nuanced character agency.
  • The story lacks deep social commentary or ideological framing beyond standard genre tropes.

AI Analysis

Pretty Dead operates primarily as a genre-driven teen horror-comedy. It relies on established cinematic tropes and archetypes rather than attempting to deconstruct social hierarchies or systemic structures. While the film features a multi-ethnic ensemble, the casting feels more like a reflection of a contemporary landscape than a deliberate effort toward intersectional storytelling. The characters inhabit roles defined by genre conventions rather than complex identities. Ultimately, the narrative prioritizes survival and immediate physical threats over progressive social commentary or the subversion of traditional institutions.
