Category Breakdown

LGBTQ+ Representation

Minimal

The film lacks LGBTQ+ characters or narratives addressing non-cisnormative identities. Romantic tension is limited to heterosexual dynamics between Heather and Robbie.

Gender Representation

Fair

Female characters like Heather and Robbie’s mother occupy central roles but function within traditional tropes. The film relies on established genre archetypes rather than subverting gender hierarchies.

Racial & Ethnic Diversity

Minimal

The narrative focuses on a seemingly homogeneous community. There is no evidence of a multi-ethnic cast or intentional racial integration within the interpersonal conflicts.

Religious & Cultural Diversity

Fair

The story engages with the deconstruction of religious authority. By questioning the 'Anti-Christ' narrative, it challenges singular Christian morality and traditional church structures.

Disability Representation

Minimal

There is no explicit portrayal of neurodivergence or physical disability. While bullying is mentioned, these traits are not presented as central identity markers.

Strengths

  • The narrative provides a thoughtful deconstruction of religious certainty and traditional moral authority.
  • It explores themes of religious skepticism through the conflict between the Church and the supernatural.

Areas for Improvement

  • The film lacks meaningful representation of LGBTQ+ identities or non-cisnormative characters.
  • The casting and setting appear homogeneous, offering little racial or ethnic diversity.
  • Female characters are confined to traditional archetypes like the protective mother or grieving witness.

AI Analysis

Way of the Wicked operates as a conventional supernatural thriller that prioritizes genre tropes over intersectional representation. The cast and setting appear largely homogeneous, lacking significant racial or LGBTQ+ diversity. However, the film finds some depth through its thematic skepticism. By placing religious figures in conflict with supernatural realities, it moves beyond simple spiritual celebrations to question established moral hierarchies. Ultimately, the film's impact is limited by its reliance on traditional character archetypes and a lack of diverse casting, making it a standard genre entry rather than a progressive narrative.
