AI Analysis

Overseas offers a profound look at the systemic preparation of Filipino women for the global labor market. By focusing on training exercises for domestic workers, the film deconstructs romanticized views of migration, highlighting the psychological resilience required to face potential abuse. The documentary succeeds by shifting the perspective from the Western consumer to the laborer. This provides significant depth to a demographic often relegated to the periphery of global narratives, emphasizing their agency and the precariousness of their professional environments. While the film excels in gender and ethnic representation, it remains silent on LGBTQ+ identities and disability. However, its focus on the structural vulnerabilities of migrant workers provides a necessary critique of international power dynamics.
