Alias French Gertie tells a crime story centered around a highly influential female protagonist. She uses her intellect and performance skills to navigate her criminal life, but the story remains rooted in the conventional moral frameworks of the early sound era. The film provides the female lead with significant influence but lacks depth in representing multiple aspects of identity. The focus on a male-female partnership and the eventual push toward social conformity suggests a reinforcement of traditional values rather than a challenge to them. Overall, the film operates as a typical genre piece. It lacks diverse casting and systemic critique, prioritizing a restorative moral arc over a more progressive narrative structure.
