Burnout (2011) provides a raw, realistic portrayal of the intersection between underrepresented domestic life and state institutional pressures. By featuring a multi-ethnic family in Berlin-Wedding, the film challenges homogeneous views of German society. The film effectively highlights the intersection of race and class, offering a nuanced look at diverse familial structures. It reframes state-run welfare systems as sources of tension rather than support. However, the film lacks explicit LGBTQ+ characters and remains ambiguous about specific physical or neurodivergent disabilities. The primary focus is on socio-economic and psychological burdens.

Official Synopsis
Pelin, a young single mother from the problem neighborhood of Berlin-Wedding, is sent with her three children by different fathers of different nationalities - Robby (seven), Elvis (four) and Roxanne (ten months) - to a mother-child cure in a scenic, paradisiacal spa resort in northern Germany. The cure is intended to give Pelin, who is constantly on a collision course with the youth welfare office and family court, time to reflect and recover physically and mentally.
