AI Analysis

The Retreat operates as a standard independent slasher, prioritizing genre mechanics over social subversion. The narrative relies heavily on established tropes, such as the 'final girl' and sexualized group dynamics, which reinforce traditional social hierarchies rather than challenging them. While the cast includes some racial diversity, the film lacks evidence of meaningful agency for marginalized identities. The focus remains on the visceral elements of horror within a conventional Western framework. Ultimately, the film functions as a genre-driven piece that lacks intentionality regarding intersectional representation or the deconstruction of systemic structures.
