Farewells is a period drama that emphasizes historical and class-based tensions over modern multi-layered diversity. It serves as an examination of how social conventions and the onset of war dismantle traditional structures. The film effectively critiques class-based social conventions and the fragility of social etiquette. It uses the historical backdrop of Poland to illustrate how personal connections endure even as societal hierarchies crumble. However, the work remains constrained by the era's demographic homogeneity. It lacks representation regarding race, LGBTQ+ identities, and disability, focusing instead on a specific, traditional European social milieu.
