Yarik is a grim social realist drama that prioritizes a critique of systemic corruption over identity-based representation. It functions as a harrowing look at human trafficking and the complicity of state authorities in the exploitation of minors. The film's strength lies in its deconstruction of state authority as a predatory force involved in the commodification of human life. However, it lacks the diverse casting, LGBTQ+ narratives, or disability representation found in more inclusive contemporary works.

The plot is set within the context of Russian abduction and trafficking. While it mentions victims being relocated to the West, it does not have intentional casting that reflects diverse backgrounds.
The film sharply criticizes state institutions and global capitalism. It portrays the West as a destination for a select few, highlighting global inequalities and systemic corruption.
