Diversity & Representation

Overall Score

1.7/10

Category Breakdown

LGBTQ+ Representation

Minimal

The film lacks LGBTQ+ characters or narratives addressing non-cisnormative identities. The central conflict follows a traditional thriller structure centered on a female protagonist and male antagonists.

Gender Representation

Fair

The story centers on a female protagonist's journey of self-reinvention and survival. While she shows agency against male-driven aggression, the power dynamics lean toward a traditional victim-to-survivor arc.

Racial & Ethnic Diversity

Minimal

There is no indication of a diverse or non-Anglo-Saxon majority cast. The narrative appears to follow conventional thriller casting patterns without documented ethnic breadth.

Religious & Cultural Diversity

Limited

Themes of salvation and vengeance suggest a preoccupation with moral duality. However, the film lacks a systemic critique of Western institutions or religious structures.

Disability Representation

Minimal

No neurodivergence or physical disabilities are explored through a lens of agency. The protagonist being left for dead serves as a genre plot device rather than a meaningful exploration.

Strengths

  • The film provides a central female protagonist who drives the narrative through her journey of survival and reinvention.

Areas for Improvement

  • The film lacks representation for LGBTQ+ identities, diverse racial backgrounds, and various forms of disability.
  • The narrative relies on traditional genre tropes rather than offering a systemic critique of cultural or religious structures.

AI Analysis

Evangeline functions as a conventional horror-thriller focused on individual survival. While the film provides a central female lead with agency in her struggle against a sociopathic fraternity leader, it lacks broader demographic breadth. The narrative relies on established genre tropes, such as the victim-to-survivor arc, rather than subverting traditional power hierarchies. There is no evidence of intersectional storytelling or diverse casting within the provided material. Ultimately, the film lacks the documented complexity or representation of marginalized identities required for a higher diversity rating, remaining a narrow, character-driven genre piece.
