Kim Sung-soo’s thriller deconstructs traditional social hierarchies by focusing on characters navigating existential uncertainty. By highlighting the instability of modern life, the film moves away from rigid patriarchal structures and towards more fluid, individualistic struggles. The film excels in its cultural authenticity and its departure from Western-centric storytelling. It presents a localized view of South Korean urban life that feels specific to its context. However, the narrative lacks representation for LGBTQ+ identities and disabilities. While it challenges traditional gender roles, it remains within a straight-centered framework and does not address neurodiversity or physical impairment.
