Black Ice is a psychological character study that emphasizes interpersonal tension over broad demographic representation. It successfully challenges traditional gender roles by placing the narrative ability to act firmly in the hands of its female protagonist. However, the film lacks significant representation regarding race and LGBTQ+ identities. The focus remains on a localized, domestic drama that does not engage with broader multi-layered themes. Ultimately, the film's progressive qualities come from its disruption of domestic archetypes rather than its social diversity.
