Slaughter is a gritty horror film that prioritizes visceral impact and genre clichés over social complexity. The narrative is heavily centered on a single male antagonist, David Ward, whose actions drive the plot through extreme violence and pathology. The film fails to incorporate diverse identities, lacking any meaningful representation of LGBTQ+ individuals, diverse racial groups, or women's ability to drive the story. It adheres to traditional horror structures that rely on established, often regressive, character archetypes. Ultimately, the work functions as a genre-specific piece that avoids nuanced perspectives. It utilizes disability and gender through narrow, traditional lenses rather than challenging social hierarchies or providing deeper insights.

Official Synopsis
Slaughter is the feature film debut of writer and director Juno Jakob and takes horror back to its nasty, gritty and often tongue in cheek roots of the 1970's and 80's. The film follows escaped mental patient David Ward as he hides in his derelict caravan spending his days hiding from the police and doctors and filming himself raping and murdering while police slowly discover his crimes and get closer to him. The film is told from two view points. The traditional third person camera and David's own Hi8 camcorder.
