The Bod Squad offers a powerful subversion of passive female roles by turning kidnapped women into skilled martial artists. This transformation allows the protagonists to fight for their freedom, providing a compelling narrative shift. However, the film remains tied to the exploitation clichés of its time. The cross-cultural elements may rely on stereotypical representations of China, and the story lacks a deeper critique of systemic issues. Ultimately, while the film empowers its female leads, it falls short of offering multi-layered depth or broader social commentary.

The protagonists start as vulnerable captives but gain significant control over their lives as martial artists. They take charge of their physical well-being and become key figures in the action.
The story involves interactions between Western women and a Chinese setting. While there are meaningful exchanges between different ethnic groups, the portrayal may rely on exoticized stereotypes.
The narrative centers on a localized struggle for survival without addressing broader societal issues. It does not engage with secularism or offer a deeper critique of Western moral constructs.
