New Showbiz Analysis

Anatema uses the horror genre to challenge traditional social structures and religious authority. By focusing on Juana, a nun with a strong character, the film moves away from the cliché of the passive religious victim. The film's strength lies in its potential to dismantle patriarchal institutions. The setting of an ancient Madrid church serves as a backdrop for exploring the tension between organized religion and primordial, systemic truths. However, the lack of specific information about cast composition or disability representation limits a full assessment of its inclusivity. The focus remains primarily on institutional critique and gendered ability to act.
