The film operates within the established conventions of mid-1980s Eastern European fairy-tale cinema. It prioritizes a classic hero's journey that emphasizes men's control over the story and traditional moral archetypes. While the fantasy setting allows for magical entities, the social framework remains largely homogeneous. The narrative structure relies on straight-centered goals, such as the rescue of princesses, to drive the plot forward. Ultimately, the work functions as a traditionalist moral fable. It offers little disruption to established gender hierarchies or social norms, focusing instead on the personal temptations of its young male protagonists.
