New Showbiz Analysis

The film presents a conventional domestic farce centered on a male contractor’s economic and romantic troubles. Representation is standard for its genre and era, featuring a heterosexual romance and a family unit as the moral anchor. Wanda, the Polish nanny, is the primary source of change but remains defined by her service to the household. The narrative reinforces traditional gender and family structures as the desired outcome. Diversity is present but functional, serving the plot’s conflict about labor and integration without deep character exploration. The Polish character is defined primarily by her nationality and labor status. No LGBTQ+ characters or same-sex relationships are depicted. Wanda’s agency is limited to her role as caregiver and romantic partner. No characters with disabilities or chronic illnesses are present. The overall score reflects this standard, functional approach to diversity.

Official Synopsis

Karlheinz, a down-to-earth Berlin contractor, loudly rails against Polish illegal workers who he claims are snatching up all his jobs. Things aren’t looking good for his small company, which is on the verge of bankruptcy. Out of necessity, he takes a low-paying job with a shady contractor. Unfortunately, it’s vacation season, so the single father has to hire a nanny for his young daughter. The charming Wanda, who is anything but a typical housewife, not only turns his family life upside down - there’s also a powerful spark between them.
