Combat Girls succeeds in challenging typical social drama clichés by centering a female protagonist defined by radicalized aggression. Marisa’s journey from extreme xenophobia to moral complexity provides a framework for exploring the intersection between identity and extremist ideologies. The film effectively uses the immigrant experience to challenge nationalist frameworks, moving the story beyond simple conflict into a critique of systemic social decay. This approach provides a sophisticated look at how identity is formed and dismantled. However, the film remains narrow in its scope regarding other underrepresented identities. While it tackles gender and ethnicity with depth, it offers no representation for LGBTQ+ individuals or people with disabilities.
